Accessibility Statement

A website that shuts people out isn't handled with care. Here is what we've built in, and how to tell us where we've fallen short.

The short answer

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Keyboard navigation, screen readers, text resizing and reduced-motion preferences are all supported. If any part of the site is hard for you to use, tell us and we will fix it and help you directly in the meantime.

01

What we have built in

  • A skip link so keyboard users can jump straight to the main content of every page.
  • Full keyboard navigation, with a clearly visible focus outline on links, buttons and form fields.
  • Semantic, correctly-structured headings and landmarks so screen readers can navigate the page sensibly.
  • Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images, and empty alt text on purely decorative ones so they are skipped.
  • Live-region announcements on our forms, so form progress, errors and success messages are read aloud.
  • Colour contrast tested to meet AA, with small text never relying on a colour combination that fails.
  • Respect for the 'reduce motion' setting: if your device requests it, animations, the intro sequence and video are dimmed or removed.
  • Text that reflows and stays readable when zoomed to 200%, and a layout that works from small phones to large screens without horizontal scrolling.
  • The page language set to English so screen readers use the right pronunciation.

02

How we have tested it

We test with automated accessibility tooling as a routine part of building the site, and the pages consistently score full marks for accessibility in automated audits. Automated tools catch many issues but not all of them, so this is a claim of substantial conformance, not a guarantee that every element on every page is perfect.

We have not yet commissioned a formal independent accessibility audit or user testing with people who rely on assistive technology. When we do, we will update this statement with the findings and the date.

03

Known limitations

We want to be honest about where the site may fall short:

  • The homepage opens with a brief brand animation and the hero carries an ambient background video on larger screens. Both are switched off automatically if your device requests reduced motion, but if you experience any discomfort and this did not happen, please tell us.
  • Some illustrative maps and decorative flourishes are visual only; the information they support is always available as text elsewhere on the same page.
  • A small number of documents we offer for download, such as our landlord briefing, are PDFs. If you need any of our guidance in a different format, we will provide it.

04

If something isn't working for you

This matters to us, and we would genuinely rather know. Whatever the barrier, we will help you get what you need directly, by phone, email or in person, and we will work to fix the underlying problem on the site.

Contact us at hello@roweandhart.co.uk or 020 3370 4144, telling us the page and what happened. We aim to respond within one working day.

05

Enforcement

If you contact us about an accessibility problem and are not happy with our response, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the accessibility regulations. You can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com. You are also always able to raise a broader complaint through our complaints procedure.
